The Gyrotonic® Expansion System

What is the Gyrotonic Expansion System? Using weights, cams and pulleys, circular movements are possible in limitless directions allowing rehabilitating clients to stimulate injured areas, maintain and expand postural integrity, and continue to progress in patterns that are unaffected by injury.

How does it work? The basis for the Gyrotonic Expansion system is based on an understanding of the manifestation of spirals and circles in the body. Circular movement disperses stagnation in the body, while pushing energy into areas that are weak or lacking energetic flow.

Where does it come from? Julio Horvath, based on his formidable experience in ballet, swimming, gymnastics, and yoga developed the Gyrotonic Expansion technique using the universal principals of movement, breath and rhythm.

What does it address? Gyrotonic® Expansion System integrates neuromuscular coordination, breath control, cardiovascular stimulation, flexibility, strength and internal regeneration.

Who can benefit? The system is adjustable to any body size and ability level, making it the perfect modality for children, rehabilitation, the elderly, or anyone interested in improved fitness.

Gyrokinesis®

Classes in the east bay at Emeryville MindBody Connection.

Gyrokinesis®, a floor program designed by Juliu Horvath that blends the essence of yoga, dance, gymnastics, and tai-chi into a fluid and rhythmical class.

Gyrokinesis® works the whole body through seven natural elements of spinal movement: forward, backward, left side, right side, left twist, right twist, and circular, as well as all other joint articulation. This methodology systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating exercises. Movement stimulates the body's internal organs and different corresponding breathing patterns are integrated. Fluidity is the key. Postures are not held for long periods of time. Instead postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance than traditional yoga. All ages and movement expreience welcome. Everybody will benefit from this stiumulating, gentle, and dynamic movement system.
