NIA® (Neuromuscular Integrative Action) Technique
In 1983, the Rosas introduced their American-born movement form called NIA. It became the catalyst to reducing the impact in aerobics. The result was a softer, barefoot, non-impact style of fitness. Still unparalleled, NIA's unique blend of the mind and the emotions with movement provides a fitness program that is efficient, exciting, and safe. NIA's personalized approach to mind-body fitness takes American science, sports medicine, and technology, and blends it with the art and craft of Eastern disciplines, bridging the gap between fitness and wellness. The movement in NIA transcends both the slow dance of tai-chi and the precision of tae-kwon-do. NIA incorporates the excitement, fun and showmanship of jazz with the free spirit of Duncan dance and the creative play between shapes, space, and balance of modern dance. Moreover, NIA integrates the conscious alignment and postures of yoga with the harmonious, spherical movement of aikido. Its' choreography is novel and fascinating. www.nia-nia.com
